Rural Collin County Town

Apartments in Weston, TX

Welcome to Weston, a small rural town in northern Collin County set between McKinney, Celina, and Anna on the northern edge of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Weston is a small city in the northern reaches of Collin County, Texas, about 12 miles north of McKinney, the county seat, and roughly seven miles west of Anna and eight miles east of Celina. Although Collin County ranks among the most urbanized counties in the state, Weston has held on to a distinctly rural character, with a population of only a few hundred residents spread across low-density farmland and country roads. The town has an unusual place in Texas postal history: it was among the first communities in the state to receive rural free mail delivery, a service that began on March 15, 1900. For much of its history Weston remained a small farming and ranching settlement; census counts through the twentieth century hovered in the low hundreds, and the community has stayed compact even as subdivisions and commercial development have advanced across the surrounding county. Today Weston functions as a quiet residential outpost on the edge of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Its location places residents within a short drive of the services and employment centers of McKinney, Celina, Anna, and Prosper, while still allowing for larger lots and a more rural pace of life. The surrounding landscape is gently rolling, and Lake Lavon lies to the east, providing a regional recreation anchor. Because Weston sits in a county that has urbanized steadily around it, the area near the town has become a point of transition between working farmland and the expanding suburban edge. The community itself, however, remains lightly developed, with homes on larger parcels and limited commercial activity, which preserves the small-town feel that has defined it for more than a century.
