Fort Worth Suburb in Tarrant County
Apartments in Saginaw, TX
Welcome to Saginaw, an inner suburb of Fort Worth in Tarrant County, shaped by its railroad heritage and set near Eagle Mountain Lake.
Saginaw is a small city in Tarrant County, Texas, and an inner suburb of Fort Worth, in the northwestern portion of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The area was settled before the railroad era as the community of Dido, one of Tarrant County's earliest settlements, but its modern identity began in the 1880s, when three rail lines — the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf; the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe; and the Fort Worth and Denver City — built through the area. In 1882, the growing community was renamed Saginaw, and the railroad remained central to its economy and identity for decades. Today Saginaw is a family-oriented suburban city of about 23,900 residents (2020 census) covering roughly 7.6 square miles. It has grown steadily since the mid-20th century as the Fort Worth area expanded northwest, transitioning from a railroad and grain town into a residential community that still nods to its rail heritage in local identity and public spaces. The city is served by the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District, a large district of about 31 schools and more than 23,000 students that covers northwest Tarrant County, including parts of Fort Worth and the communities around Eagle Mountain Lake. The district is a major draw for families and a unifying institution across the area. Recreation is anchored by Eagle Mountain Lake, an 8,694-acre reservoir that lies at the city's edge and supports fishing, boating, water skiing, and wakeboarding, with marinas and a public boat ramp providing access. Eagle Mountain Park, a 400-acre natural area with more than five miles of hiking trails, sits nearby, and Lake Worth adds further shoreline recreation. Saginaw's location northwest of Fort Worth puts the city's jobs, cultural attractions, and amenities within easy reach, while U.S. Highway 287 and the nearby freeway network connect residents across the metroplex.
